ZAP - Zeroes Aren't Permitted:
Students that don't turn in their assignments in all their classes are assigned to the ZAP room during lunch so they can finish it and earn partial credit. The students are to stay in the ZAP room (room 38) until their missing assignments are turned in.
If a student is assinged to the ZAP room but doesn't attend, they will first get a warning , the 2nd time earn a detention, the 3rd time double detention, and the 4th time a Saturday School.
40 points are awarded each week if the student is not zapped by Monday (has no missing assignments) when the student's planner is checked.
ZAPS are discovered on Monday when the planner is checked. A ZAP is only recorded if a circle is shown without a ZAP stamp on it. If on Monday a student is placed on the ZAP list, they have until that Thursday to show the teacher they have been unzapped.
Upon inspection, if the teacher sees no new ZAPS (any circle without a ZAP stamp) during the current week AND previous two weeks then the student is taken off the list, they are given an A- that week in the ZAP gradebook category (given 36 out of 40 points). If they earn their way off the ZAP list for that week, it's as if it never happend! :)
If a student is unable to get unzapped by their teacher due to a teacher's absences
or unavailability then the affected student needs turn in the missing assignment, have the teacher stamp the planner thus clearing the ZAP, write a letter in pen or have it typed detailing that fact, have the teacher sign the letter, & turn in the signed letter to Mr. McCullough. If the above is completed, the student will earn an A- for not being ZAPped and one ZAP will be removed from the student's quarter ZAP total.
Teacher Incentive:
Students that are not excessively zapped will earn a party at the end of the quarter, but students are expected to become more responsible so the criteria will tighten as the year progresses.
Quarter 1: No more than 3 ZAPS Party on 10/19
Quarter 2: No more than 2 ZAPS Party on 1/18
Quarter 3: No more than 1 ZAP (2 day party!) Party on 3/28 & 3/29
Quarter 4: No ZAPs are permitted! (1 day party!) Party on 5/31
